Sports Minister Demands Accountability After Bafana Bafana's World Cup Travel Plans Hit Visa Snag

Johannesburg – South Africa's FIFA World Cup preparations have been dealt an unexpected setback after visa complications delayed Bafana Bafana's departure to Mexico, triggering a strong response from Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie.

The national team was scheduled to travel to Mexico ahead of a friendly international against Jamaica and the start of their World Cup campaign. However, administrative challenges involving travel documentation for a number of players and officials prevented the squad from leaving as planned.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) acknowledged the difficulties, confirming that visa-related issues had affected the team's travel arrangements. The association said it was working urgently to ensure that the squad reaches Mexico as soon as possible.

The development has drawn sharp criticism from McKenzie, who described the situation as embarrassing and called for immediate accountability.

"I need a report and action must be taken against those responsible for this mess," the Minister said.
